I am happy to introduce myself to you as MT HFMA President for this year which runs from June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021.
I have worked in the healthcare industry for over 17 years and have been a member of Montana HFMA for fifteen years. I grew up in Libby, Montana, and now reside in Missoula, Montana. I have moved back to Missoula four times, so I guess I like it here.
I have attended HFMA meetings in a couple of other states and I am so proud of our Montana Chapter! Our members and sponsors are so supportive and collaborate so well. It is truly a unique Chapter in regard to our networking and communication between providers, business partners, and payers. This is evident by the number of chapter sponsors we have and by the number of people who attend our educational events.
We have great leaders on our MT HFMA Board and on our committees which is a big reason for our success. Each and every conference is packed full of relevant educational sessions thanks to our amazing Program Committee. Our Networking/Social Awareness Committee, that was developed a few years ago, has done a great job making conferences a fun experience with all of the events that they plan for us.
I have big shoes to fill following our Past President, Marci Mollman. Marci has graciously served as our Chapter President three times and is a wonderful mentor for other board members. Marci is now a member of the HFMA Chapter Advancement Team, or CAT at The Association level. The CAT team assists the Chapters with strategic planning, succession planning, and many other chapter needs. It is an honor to be a member of CAT and Marci is well deserved to serve on this team.
Our educational events this ‘COVID-19 year’ will look a little different, and the Board and Committees are dedicated to keeping you well informed.
One change the Board has put in place is the “The Montana Minute” news blast. In the past we have sent a quarterly newsletter. “The Montana Minute” will be a short news blast which will be sent out monthly instead of a longer newsletter quarterly. Please send any feedback or suggestions you have regarding this communication. We also have plenty of room on our Communications Committee for new committee members. We are expanding our social media platform and updating our website. If you have comments, questions, or interest in assisting as a committee member, please contact Janelle Nelson, Communications Committee Chair at JanelleNelson@benefis.org.
When I think back to the time when I was a new member of HFMA, the terminology, board structure, chapter awards, etc. were all things that took me a while to figure out – and I am still learning. I hope to add a little tidbit for new members in each Montana Minute to hopefully assist you to understand HFMA a little better. So, in closing my note for this month:
HFMA Tidbit: Those of you who have been HFMA members for years know, the Corporate HFMA Team has been referred to as “National”. They changed their name to “The Association” so you will hear both terms as switching to the new name has been a difficult transition.
